When:
TBA
Why:
There is a need for basic healthcare in Southern India - especially among the monks, nuns, Tibetan refugees, Indians and animals living in the Drepung Loseling monastery and in the surrounding refugee settlements and villages.
Where:
Our medical site will be the Drepung Loseling Monastery and the surrounding Tibetan refugee settlements in Mundgod, India. Mundgod is in Southern India, in Karnataka state.
Expedition-In-Brief:
This program allows us to bring medical care to members of the exiled Tibetan refugee community in Mundgod, India. During the Chinese takeover of Tibet in 1959, many monasteries were destroyed. Approximately 250 monks from the Drepung monastery in Tibet escaped and were given refuge in Southern India, where they founded the Drepung Loseling monastery. Today, the monastery is home to about 2500 people. They, along with the Tibetan refugees in the surrounding settlements, local Indians from nearby villages, and animals will make up our patient population. Some of the major problems at the settlement are diabetes, STDs, arthritis, hepatitis, tuberculosis, hypertension, skin disorders and pediatric illnesses. Lodging and meals will take place in the guest quarters of the monastery.
Costs to cover expenses:
$1750 which includes lodging, transportation, all meals at the medical site, medications and supplies. The cost does not include international airfare.
